Speaker
Bruce McDonald - Friday, January 29, 2010

Bruce and his wife Beverly serve as missionaries with the Association of Baptist for World Evangelism (ABWE). They have been with ABWE since 1977. They began their ministry with ABWE as Church Planters in Austin, Texas. Beginning in the fall of 1987, Bruce and Beverly started PASS Ministry. This is a ministry to Professional Athletes under the umbrella of ABWE. PASS stands for Pro Athlete Spiritual Service.

From 1987 to 2001, Bruce served as Chaplain for the Philadelphia 76ers Basketball Team. During that time, he conducted over 600 chapels in Basketball, Football and Hockey. Their ministry consisted of many Bible Studies and Discipleship opportunities. Bruce’s background of Collegian All American in Baseball and Basketball has furthered their outreach to Athletes. He also spent a brief stint in the New York Mets Farm System.

Bruce carries on the heavy demands of a full speaking schedule that spreads through much of the country, and in many countries overseas. He has written several articles featuring various Christian athletes. He has also authored three books; “Bridge Evangelism”,” Real Men Pray” and “The Fight of Faith”. He is currently in the process of completing his fourth book “Restoring the Passion”.

In the fall of 2002, Bruce was appointed International Director of Sports for ABWE. This ministry consisted of coordinating and developing the use of sports and recreation in church planting throughout ABWE’s fields.

Beginning in January 2006, the McDonalds were asked to start Coach Ministry. Coach Ministry is a ministry to missionaries and their families, and to pastors and their families. This ministry is explained and profiled at their website; www.mcdonald.abwe.org. Although it has nothing to do with sports, the concept of a coach relates to coming alongside of those who minister for Christ, and seek to encourage them. This ministry consists of holding Spiritual Life Conferences in the states and overseas, writing material to put in the hands of those who minister, and opening their home for those who need to be refreshed and refocused.

The McDonalds are the parents of three grown children, two of whom are married. They have two granddaughters and one grandson. Bruce and Bev are currently living in Woodland Park, Colorado. Beverly heads the Women’s Mentoring Program in their local church, and Bruce team-teaches an Adult Equipping Class when in town.
